About Patt Krida

पट्ट क्रीडा — "the play upon a board" — gathers twenty traditional South Asian board games into a single app. Each board keeps its native name, its canonical rules (researched against primary and secondary scholarly sources), and its cultural footprint described with care.

These are living traditions. They exist on temple steps that are still walked over, on cotton cloths that are still folded into household chests, on courtyards swept fresh each morning. We write about them in the present tense, because they are present.

Where Western games like draughts, Nine Men's Morris, or Alquerque share a mechanic with one of our boards, we frame them as siblings travelling alongside us — never as the canonical we resemble. The shape of the tug-of-war between attacker and defender, of three-in-a-line, of jump-capture, recurs everywhere stone is patient. South Asia is part of a shared human inheritance, never derivative.

Patt Krida is built by Vāgāmbhriṇī, the same workshop behind Kutūhal and Karla. We're a small team. Email us at krida@vagambhrini.com with corrections, additions, or stories from your own grandmother's courtyard.
